Thundr Alternatives

This isn't a list of "the 7 best sites like Thundr". It's what Thundr's own users say is wrong with it, where they say they moved to, and what to check before you follow them. Written 24 August 2026, based on my own testing and the r/thundrstruck subreddit.

Why people leave Thundr

Reading through the subreddit and using the site myself, the complaints keep coming back to the same five things.

Boost prices went up a lot. Thundr has no gender filter. What it has is a "boost" bought with coins that raises your odds of matching with women. The prices have climbed to the point where a 10-minute boost costs 450 coins, roughly the whole $4.99 pack, and an hour is about $20. A lot of people simply don't want to pay that for a random chat site. I broke down the full coin and boost pricing in my Thundr review.

Boosts that don't work. A frequent complaint: you pay for a boost, hit start, and get an endless search. Nothing connects, the timer on the boost keeps running, and there's no refund button.

Shadow bans. Thundr quietly moves some accounts into a pool where searches take forever and every match is a bot. There's no notice and no appeal. In my experience the most reliable way to land there is using a VPN.

The fake online counter. A Reddit user pulled the "online now" number out of Thundr's front-end code and it's a random number between 16,000 and 29,000 that rises during the day and falls at night. I checked the code myself and found the same function. So the crowd you're paying to boost into can't actually be measured.

Privacy. Thundr shows your partner what state you're in. One woman on the subreddit described being tracked down on social media after a chat because of it.

Where Thundr users say they went

The most useful thread is one from about eight months ago on r/thundrstruck titled "The latest Omegle Alternative. What are we using now?", with over a hundred replies from people who'd left.

Two directions come up.

Umingle. The main pick for people who want the Omegle-style experience without the coin economy. Free, no registration, and strict moderation that keeps bots and spam out. The flip side is that same moderation: bans are fast, permanent, and an unban costs $9.99. I tested it in detail in my Umingle review.

Sites with no content rules. A noticeable share of the thread went the other way, to sites that don't moderate adult content at all. The three that come up most are omegleweb.com, nsfw.omegleapp.me and Flingster. The first two are free and, like Thundr, have no gender filter. What they do have is a lot of bots and fake camera feeds: recorded loops posing as live people. Flingster is the most established of the three and also the one that shows up most in the sextortion thread below. Read this before you try any of them

There's a post on r/Sextortion from about a year ago that's worth knowing about. A user on Flingster (the post also names DirtyRoulette, which is the same operator) showed his face for a couple of seconds by accident, to what was clearly a bot. Minutes later he got a WhatsApp message with a recording of himself, screenshots of his Instagram, profiles of his family, and his workplace, plus a demand. He'd never shared a phone number or a handle on the site. His guess: facial recognition against public social media. The thread has over a hundred replies from people it happened to.

One of the replies is a checklist that I'd repeat for any random chat site, not just the unmoderated ones:

• Assume your IP is visible to your partner. That's how peer-to-peer video works, VPN or not. Use a VPN anyway.
• Never show your face. A mask, a hat, camera above the eyes, whatever. A couple of seconds is enough.
• Never click a link, and never move the chat to WhatsApp, Telegram or anywhere else. Most sextortion cases start with exactly that move.
• If the video feels off, skip immediately. If they can't wave, can't talk, or send messages you never see them type, it's a recording.
• Clear cookies and history when you're done.
• Don't use the phone that has your contacts on it. A laptop with a throwaway account and nothing personal on it is safer.

What to check before picking a replacement

If Thundr's problems are the reason you're leaving, these are the five things to test on any site in the first ten minutes, because they're the same five things that went wrong there:

1. Is there a gender filter, and what does it cost?
2. What happens when you get banned: how long, and is the unban paid?
3. Does the site survive a VPN, or does the search silently die?
4. Does the site show your location to your partner?
5. Is the "online now" number real? Watch it for a minute. If it moves smoothly by small random amounts every second, it's probably decorative.
